Candida
was brought up in Blockley, deep in the
rolling Gloucestershire countryside, attending
the nearby Tudor Hall Girl’s school
in Banbury where her talent for sculpting
was first realized. “I just adored
sculpting and felt that it was my vocation,”
says Candida. “I used to hold tennis
courses for local children to fund my bronze
casting, which is a very expensive process,
and worked for five months in a bronze foundry.”
However her dream of becoming a well known
sculptress was only realized a few years
later after Candida had spent three years
as an assistant to the famous dressmaker
Sir Hardy Amies, when her mother took her
to an exhibition of David Wynne’s
in London. |
