| In a large barn deep in the Cotswolds,
Candida Bond is chiselling and hammering in preparation
for her first solo exhibition. "I feel as though
I'm exposing myself", admits Candida who until
recently was apprentice to the world-famous sculptor
David Wynne (Londoners know him best for the Queen
Mother's Gates on Park Lane). Although she has a
small studio for the more diminutive bronzes, the
barn is where she carves her giant Brancusi-esque
limestone pieces. "The block I'm working on
now is three and a half tons," says Candida.
"You also need a huge amount of space because
the process is so dirty. Most of the time I look
like a grey-haired old woman from all the dust". |
